Everyone Has a Story…You Better Be Listening
Every time a prospect emails, calls, or walks into your leasing center, they bring a lifetime of experiences. Joys, sorrows, health, job histories, adventures, childhood memories, relationships, good stuff, and some not so good. It’s kinda complicated. It’s their story. You need to listen.
It is their recent story that may especially impact the way a prospect (or resident) treats you and reacts to your leasing presentation and engagement. You just don’t know what life has served up for that person today and if you did, you might better understand. You need to be patient.
Sometimes it’s not the apartment hunt that is really on their mind. There could be fear or sadness driving this relocation due to a relationship change. Maybe a couple is looking forward to a new baby and they are excited and anxious. Or perhaps due to past mistreatment by others the prospect demonstrates an initial distrust for you. You need to be sensitive.
You Have a Story, too.
What about YOUR personal story? How does it influence the way you respond to the people you meet today? Listen to your story and become a more engaged and patient manager, leasing professional, service tech, boss, and follower.
I love this video from Chick-fil-A about stories. Hope it enlightens you like it does me. Share it with your team.
